Dress-Shirt Rid Ink Stains

When a pen busts inside your shirt pocket and creates a hideous black blob, you already want to throw away that dress shirt. If you do fall victim to the dreaded ink stains, don’t panic. Ink stain removal is actually very simple: all you need is a good ink remover, a little time, and the following useful tips on removing ink stains. Here’s what you need to know on how to remove ink stains from dress shirts:

Most everyday writing pens are water-based inks, which make these easy to remove from fabric. In most cases, you only need laundry detergent and warm water to remove. For tougher stains, consider using a pre-treatment before running through the washing machine.

Tools

  • Paper towels

  • Hairspray

Steps

  1. Earlier the better. Grab a few paper towels and press firmly on against the fabric soaking up as much ink as you can.

  2. Place a fresh paper towel under the fabric with the stain

  3. Spray the fabric with the hairspray until the fabric is saturated and the ink starts to raise.

  4. Put the fabric in the wash. (Do not dry until ink has disappeared)

For any other stains, reference the Stain Removal Chart. Be sure to check out our tips on how to easily clean your baseball caps.
